Met klinische chemie kunnen medicijnspiegels in het bloed gemonitord worden, in de toekomst mogelijks zelfs via een simpele vingerprik. Andere mogelijke toekomstige innovatieve technieken zijn darmechografie voor diagnostiek & monitoring en camerapillen als vervanging van een endoscopie.
